ABYAN, July 17 (YPA) – A prominent tribe from Yemen’s southern province of Abyan withdrew on Thursday from the “Al-Rayyan Camp” affiliated with the Islah Party in eastern Jawf province, citing a deviation from the camp’s stated objectives and its use to serve external agendas.
Local sources said that tribal sheikhs from the Bakazim tribe decided to leave the camp and return to their areas in Abyan after realizing that the Islah Party had taken control of the “Al-Rayyan Camp” and was using it to mobilize tribes and exploit their presence in support of Saudi interests.
The sources added that the Bakazim tribesmen withdrew after the camp was allegedly steered away from its declared purpose, which centered on claims involving Saddam Hussein’s daughter, with those claims reportedly being used as a political pretext to serve the interests of the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated group.
The withdrawal of Bakazim tribe comes after several other tribal groups left the camp in recent days, amid the failure of the Islah Party to assassinate Salafist figure Hussein Al-Salahi Al-Yafei on Tuesday near a military checkpoint in the Al-Khasha area near Al-Abbr road, shortly after he departed the Al-Rayyan Camp.
The armed ambush killed Al-Yafei’s 14-year-old son, Yasser, and one of his escorts, identified as Ali Salim Al-Dhalei, following Al-Yafei’s strong criticism of the Islah Party’s dominance and management of the camp.
