UN Envoy warns of escalation following Saudi airstrikes on Sanaa Airport
SANAA, July 13 (YPA) – The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, expressed deep concern over recent developments concerning Yemeni airspace and airports, warning of the risks of a widening escalation.
The Envoy stated that he is closely monitoring the situation and conducting intensive communications with all parties. His office has engaged with military representatives from various sides as part of efforts to contain the tension.
Grundberg called on all parties to de-escalate and refrain from taking any steps that could lead to a new round of violence in Yemen, emphasizing the importance of exercising restraint and avoiding actions that would undermine the relative calm.
Furthermore, the UN Envoy urged the Yemeni parties to engage in dialogue and negotiations under United Nations auspices, aiming to maintain the calm that Yemen has experienced since 2022 and to make progress toward reaching a political settlement that sustainably ends the conflict.
This statement follows four airstrikes launched by Saudi Arabia on Sanaa International Airport on Monday, which according to local sources, aim to maintain the blockade on the Yemeni people.
