Amnesty International: Hussam Abu Safieh’s health is critical and we demand his immediate release

LONDON, July 07 (YPA) – Amnesty International Secretary General Agnes Callamard said on Tuesday that the situation of Dr. Hussam Abu Safieh “should concern the entire world” and called for his immediate release.

Callamard added in a post on the X platform that Abu Safieh has been held since June 3, 2026, in solitary confinement at the underground Rekefet detention center, where he is subjected to daily beatings, torture, ill-treatment, and denied necessary medical care.

She quoted his lawyer as saying that Abu Safieh told him during a visit on July 2: “This is the last time you will see me. They brought me here to kill me,” confirming that the lawyer saw visible signs of torture on his body.

Amnesty International called on the international community to exert maximum and urgent pressure on the Israeli authorities to release him, warning of the deterioration of his health and humanitarian situation.
