QUDS, July 02 (YPA) – Rabbi Amos Gita was killed after being stabbed at his home in the central city of Netanya on Wednesday, the Israeli occupation’s media outlets reported.
According to the news website Walla, the attack occurred shortly after dawn prayers. The rabbi, a well-known figure in the city, was fatally wounded during an altercation inside his residence.
Police launched a manhunt following the incident and later arrested a suspect in his twenties from Netanya in the city center. The suspect was taken into custody for questioning on suspicion of murder and is also expected to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
According to Maariv, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect entered the rabbi’s home and asked to pray with him. An argument reportedly followed, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed the rabbi multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Magen David Adom emergency services said they received a report at approximately 5:45 a.m. of a critically injured man on Shimon Bar Yochai Street.
Paramedics found the victim unconscious, without a pulse or breathing, and suffering from severe stab wounds. He was taken to Laniado hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead despite resuscitation efforts.
Police and forensic teams arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and opened an investigation, collecting evidence as part of the inquiry.
