IBB, June 26 (YPA) – Five members of family were killed after lightning struck their home in the village of “Zraraa,” situated in the Wazira Sub-district within the Far Al-Udayn District, Ibb Province, during heavy rainfall on Thursday.
In a statement The Civil Defense in the province identified the victims as the family’s head, Habib Abdulwahid Hammoud Dammaj (45), his wife, Insaf Maresh Saeed Ali Farhan (45), and their three children—Umama (13), Ammar (16), and Omar (11)—who also lost their lives in the lightning strike.
Civil Defense authorities said rescue teams and relevant agencies responded to the incident and took the necessary measures.
They also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the family and extended their heartfelt condolences to the relatives and loved ones.
The Civil Defense reiterated its call on citizens to adhere to safety guidelines during rainfall and thunderstorms, urging them to avoid staying in open areas or near tall, electrically conductive objects, in order to safeguard lives and property
It also urged residents to monitor and adhere to official safety advisories issued by the relevant authorities, and to take all necessary precautions to reduce the risk of lightning strikes during the rainy season.
