ADEN, June 20 (YPA) – Protests linked to the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Aden and Seiyun in Wadi Hadramawt issued a strongly worded statement on Saturday rejecting the Saudi guardianship and external control over southern Yemen.
The statement reaffirmed support for the STC leadership, headed by Aidarous al-Zubaidi, rejected efforts to marginalize southern political forces or use the region’s resources as leverage in regional political disputes.
It also accused external actors of contributing to worsening economic and service conditions in southern and eastern Yemen.
The protesters called for investigations into corruption and the management of oil resources in Hadramawt, while also alleging broader political and security interference in local institutions.
They warned that continued tensions and economic hardship were fueling public frustration and instability.
The statement further appealed for international attention to developments in Yemen’s south, urging intervention to support stability and address ongoing political disputes.
The demonstrations came amid rising tensions following recent political and legal measures targeting STC figures, including reported moves related to financial restrictions and legal proceedings, which have further escalated divisions between competing political factions in the region.
