Electricity crisis grips Marib, Gas shortage paralyzes daily life in Radfan

MARIB, June 14 (YPA) – Power outages in Marib city and the Wadi districts, areas controlled by Islah-affiliated forces, have exceeded 12 hours per day, with only limited hours of electricity supply, as an intense heatwave continues to hit the region.

Local sources in the city said repeated power outages have led to the spread of acute skin and respiratory diseases, particularly among children and the elderly, amid growing public anger and widespread criticism of Islah authorities in Marib, who are accused of failing to provide even basic services.

The sources added that the continued deterioration of electricity supplied by the gas-fired power station has caused damage to households, businesses, and service facilities, while calls are mounting for public demonstrations over the deepening crisis.

In a separate development, Radhfan district in Yemen’s Lahj province is facing a severe shortage of domestic gas, prompting public discontent among residents.

Local sources said the crisis stems from disruptions in supplies from the Safer facility, which is controlled by Islah factions, as well as allegations of mismanagement and revenue diversion by pro-Saudi local authorities.

The sources indicated that Saudi-backed authorities in Lahj are seeking to impose a new price increase on cooking gas cylinders following the expected arrival of shipments in the coming days, raising concerns over additional financial pressure on residents already struggling with deteriorating living conditions.

The crises come amid a broader collapse in electricity and basic services, alongside worsening living conditions and expanding public protests in Aden and Hadramout that have continued for a second consecutive week, reflecting growing public anger toward Saudi Arabia and its affiliated government.
