Pro-Saudi security forces target protesters, carry out detentions in Hadramout

HADRAMOUT, June 08 (YPA) – Angry protests took place in Seiyun, Hadramout province, amid reports that security forces detained a number of demonstrators as public anger escalated over prolonged electricity outages and worsening basic services.

Eyewitnesses said dozens of residents and young people staged demonstrations in the city, condemning near-total power cuts coinciding with rising summer temperatures.

According to local accounts, emergency security units intervened to disperse the gatherings and detained several participants and activists during the protests.

The developments in Seiyun came hours after similar demonstrations in Mukalla, where protesters blocked main roads using stones and burning tires for a second consecutive day, expressing frustration over worsening living conditions.

Hadramout and other southern Yemeni provinces have seen recurring public discontent in recent years, driven by economic challenges, currency depreciation, and ongoing disruptions to electricity and basic services.
