Iraqi forces shoot down unidentified drone near Baiji refinery in Iraq

BAGHDAD, June 06 (YPA) – Iraqi forces shot down an unidentified drone flying near the Baiji oil refinery, as part of measures to secure the vital facility in northern Iraq.

Local media quoted a security source as saying that the forces spotted the drone and used medium weapons to shoot it down before it reached its targets, without any casualties or material damage.

The source confirmed that the operation was part of heightened security measures to protect oil facilities and strategic infrastructure.

The incident comes amid a rise in the level of threats in Iraq since the escalation of the confrontation between Washington and Tel Aviv on one side and Tehran on the other in late February, amid raising the readiness of Iraqi forces around vital sites.
