Mass women-led protest in Aden over severe service outages, economic collapse

ADEN, June 04 (YPA) – A mass women-led demonstration broke out in Yemen’s southern coastal city of Aden this evening, protesting severe electricity and water outages alongside the country’s worsening economic crisis.

Participants raised banners demanding that the Saudi-backed government urgently address the collapse of basic services. The demonstrators also called on the government to rescind its recent decisions to hike the customs dollar rate, while demanding a reduction in fuel prices.

Protesters expressed deep disappointment over Saudi Arabia’s failure to take tangible steps to alleviate the deteriorating living conditions, especially following Riyadh’s unilateral control over southern and eastern Yemen after the marginalization of Emirati influence.

Meanwhile, local sources noted that the demonstration was secured by a heavy military deployment of factions loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).

This unrest comes as medical sources in the southern port city report a sharp spike in cases of skin conditions and heat rashes (prickly heat) due to soaring summer temperatures coupled with prolonged, crippling power outages.
