LONDON, June 4 (YPA) – The Royal Navy announced that three of its personnel were killed when a Merlin MK4 helicopter crashed during a military training exercise early this morning near Surton in the county of Devon, southwest England.
The accident occurred at approximately 4 a.m., about 43 km north of Devonport Naval Base in Plymouth.
Navy Commander General Gwyn Jenkins confirmed an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, while police and emergency teams continue their work at the Swarton Down site near Okehampton.
It is noteworthy that the cause of the crash remains unknown.
