111 people killed by storms in India

NEW DELHI, May 15 (YPA) – Indian authorities announced on Friday that 11 people were killed by storms that struck Uttar Pradesh state.

The Indian Disaster Management Commissioner’s Office reported 111 deaths and 72 injuries, up from the previous toll of 89 deaths, according to the Oman News Agency.

The storms, which hit the state last Wednesday, tore the roofs off houses, uprooted trees, and caused road closures.

It is noteworthy that Uttar Pradesh, with a population of over 240 million, is frequently hit by storms in the months leading up to the monsoon season.
