DHALEA, May 12 (YPA) –The bus carrying football players of the Al-Tilal Sports Club was attacked Tuesday in Yemen’s southern province of Al-Dhalea while the team was returning to Aden from the capital, Sana’a, local media reported.
According to reports, unidentified individuals affiliated with the dissolved Southern Transitional Council (STC) threw stones at the team bus, damaging its windows and exterior. No injuries were immediately reported.
The attack came after Al-Tilal’s participation in the “Yemeni Republic Cup” in Sana’a, where the Aden-based club defeated Shabab Arib 5-0 to qualify for the round of 32.
Earlier, the Al-Tilal Sports Club team arrived in Sana’a for the first time in over ten years. The event coincided with the resumption of sports activities across the republic.
The team had received a warm public and official reception in Sana’a, but later faced criticism and online incitement campaigns from supporters affiliated with the STC over its participation in the tournament.
