Video shows failed attempt to abduct school principal in Yemen’s Taiz

TAIZ, May 08 (YPA) – Girls’ school principal in the Al-Matar al-Qadeem ( Old Airport) area of Taiz city escaped an abduction attempt after being monitored by armed men, local sources said.

School principal Samira Mansour Ahmed Al-Sabri posted a video on social media showing the moment armed men in a small bus attempted to abduct her from a public street after blocking the school gate.

In a formal complaint posted online, Al-Sabri said the armed group was led by Hussam Ahmed Saleh Al-Qubati, whom she identified as an adviser at the city’s education office.

She accused Al-Qubati of attempting to impose a new school administration “by force of arms,” saying he had issued a decision appointing his wife as principal in her place. She said the case was pending before legal authorities.

In a separate statement, the school’s deputy principal, I’tidal Saeed Al-Kawshah, said the armed men had locked the school’s main gate from the outside, preventing staff from entering and bringing the educational process to a halt.

Despite the complaints filed, local authorities affiliated with the Islah party have not taken any measures to protect the school administration or students, according to the statement.

The incident sparked widespread outrage and condemnation among residents of Taiz and social media activist amid concerns over deteriorating security in the city.
