Russian Security Council warns Germany against possessing nuclear weapon

MOSCOW, May 07 (YPA) – Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, issued on Thursday strong warnings to Germany, stating that any move by Berlin to acquire nuclear weapons would compel Russia to take “all possible measures to retaliate.”

Medvedev asserted that Germany is experiencing a significant geopolitical setback in Ukraine and characterized the current surge in demands for revenge following Germany’s World War II defeat as now overtly official.

He further hinted at the potential for unprecedented escalation, emphasizing that any military confrontation with Germany could lead Moscow to target “the renowned German industry, and potentially the entire European civilization.”

Medvedev also remarked that Germany and the European Union have “no substantial grounds to defend Ukraine so forcefully or to view Russia as a perpetual adversary.”

These remarks come amid intensifying debates across Europe regarding nuclear deterrence and strategic security, particularly amid growing concerns over the possible weakening of US security guarantees within NATO.

In recent weeks, German and European leaders have repeatedly highlighted the necessity of bolstering European defense capabilities following Washington’s announcement of plans to reduce its military presence in Germany.
