In video: Iran’s navy fires missiles at US warships near Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN, May 04 (YPA) – The Iranian Navy said Monday it confronted US naval vessels that were attempting to approach the Strait of Hormuz under “radar silence,” in a tense maritime incident.

In a statement carried by Iran’s Tasnim news agency, the navy said the US destroyers switched off their radar systems while navigating the Sea of Oman in a suspicious move, before being detected once their systems were reactivated.

According to the statement, the Iranian forces issued radio warnings to the US vessels, cautioning that any approach toward the Strait of Hormuz would be considered a serious violation. It added that further warnings were delivered after the initial alert was ignored.

The statement said the navy then carried out warning measures, including the use of drones and missiles in a show of force, to compel the vessels to alter their course.

It concluded by holding the United States responsible for any escalation, stressing that the security of the Strait of Hormuz remains a “red line.”
