UNIFIL declares death of Indonesian peacekeeper in Lebanon

BEIRUT, April 24 (YPA) – UNIFIL announced on Friday the death of an Indonesian peacekeeper who succumbed to injuries sustained in an explosion at a UN base in southern Lebanon.

In a statement, UNIFIL said Corporal Rico Pramudia, 31, was critically wounded when a shell detonated inside the mission’s base in Adshit Al-Qusayr on March 29, before later dying in a hospital in Beirut.

The statement expressed condolences to his family, as well as to the Indonesian Army and the Indonesian government and people.

It called on all parties to respect international law and ensure the protection of UN personnel and facilities, warning that deliberate attacks on peacekeepers constitute serious violations that may amount to war crimes under international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
