TEHRAN, April 22 (YPA) – Iran has not yet announced an official position regarding former U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim about extending a ceasefire, Iran’s state television reported on Wednesday.
According to the broadcaster, reports suggesting that Tehran had formally approved any extension are “untrue,” adding that the Iranian authorities are still reviewing the various dimensions of a possible ceasefire extension.
It also clarified that a statement attributed to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baqaei was inaccurate, stating that he did not issue any such remarks.
Meanwhile, presidential adviser Mehdi Tabatabaei said in a post on X that claims of disagreement or division among senior Iranian officials are part of “political and media games” orchestrated by Iran’s adversaries.
He added that coordination between the political, street, and diplomatic spheres in Iran is currently at an unprecedented level.
Tabatabaei also reiterated that Iran remains open to negotiations based on what he described as fairness and rationality, while accusing opponents of spreading misinformation and calling for an end to what he termed distortions.
The statements come after Trump announced that the ceasefire had been extended pending Iran’s response and further discussions.
In response, Iranian sources cited by Tasnim News Agency said Tehran informed the United States via Pakistani mediation that its delegation would not travel to Islamabad, and that there are currently no prospects for participation in talks.
Pakistan has reportedly continued diplomatic efforts to facilitate a negotiated settlement, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressing hope for a comprehensive peace agreement to end the conflict.
Amid the developments, Iranian officials reiterated that the country’s armed forces remain fully prepared to respond to any renewed U.S. or Israeli aggression.
