UN experts call on EU to immediately suspend its trade agreement with “Israel”

GENEVA, April 21 (YPA) – UN experts said today that the European Union must immediately suspend its Association Agreement with Israel, stressing that the move is no longer merely a political option but a legal obligation representing the minimum of the bloc’s commitments under international law.

In a statement, the experts said the call responds to a European citizens’ initiative that has gathered more than one million signatures in protest against what they described as grave human rights violations committed by Israeli occupation entity.

The experts emphasized: “The European Union cannot credibly claim to support human rights while maintaining preferential trade relations with a state whose conduct numerous international bodies have concluded amounts to genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.”

Regarding the situation in Gaza, the experts pointed to UN field analyses and documentation that they said indicate systematic violations of fundamental rights and freedoms, describing such conduct as structural in nature.

“Full suspension is not a matter of political discretion but a legal imperative incumbent on the European Union,” the experts concluded the statement.

It is worth noting that these calls come amid escalating public and international pressure to halt Israel’s war machine and impose economic and diplomatic sanctions to deter it from continuing its crimes against the Palestinian people.
