EU condemns air raids on civilians in Hodeidah
SANAA, Aug. 5 (YPA) – The European Union condemned the air attacks on civilians in Hodeidah province which killed and injured dozens.
In a joint statement on Saturday, EU High Representative for the European Commission, Federica Mogherini and EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Christos Stylianides, said that the raids on Hodeidah “are a tragic reminder that international law established for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure in time of war is Daily violations in Yemen.
The shelling of densely populated areas and attacks on schools, medical facilities, residential areas, markets, water distribution systems, ports and airports caused a great deal of suffering for civilians, and Yemen has become the worst humanitarian disaster in the world, with 22 million people in need, read the statement.
The statement stressed that a political solution is the only solution that can put an end to the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The European Union expressed its support for the announcement by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffith, of his intention to invite the parties of conflict to a first round of consultations in Geneva on 6 September.
