Nizar Amidi elected as president of Iraq

BAGHDAD, April 11 (YPA) – Iraq’s parliament elected Nizar Amidi as president on Saturday, succeeding Abdul Latif Rashid.

Amidi, a senior figure in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, secured victory after a two-round voting process, defeating multiple candidates including Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, who was backed by the rival Kurdistan Democratic Party.

The vote ends a period of parliamentary rivalry over the presidency, paving the way for a new political phase.
