SHABWA, April 05 (YPA) – A tribal sheikh and one of his escorts were killed on Sunday in an armed ambush in central Shabwa, eastern Yemen, an area under the control of Saudi-backed forces.
Local sources said gunmen from the “Al Halima” tribe ambushed tribal leader Ali Al-Dabsi in the Dhalaa area of Al-Saeed district, killing him and his escort, Saqr bin Fahd bin Dalyu. Another escort, Mohammed bin Badr Al-Dabsi, was wounded in the attack.
According to the sources, the assailants tracked Al-Dabsi’s vehicle before opening heavy fire on it in the area.
The attack is believed to be linked to a long-running tribal feud between the Al-Dabsi and Al Halima tribes, amid a persistent security vacuum in the governorate since 2016.
Sources said tensions remain high, with retaliatory violence escalating, highlighting continued instability and a limited state presence in the province.
