TEHRAN, April 05 (YPA) – An analytical report by the “War Analysis” department of Iran’s Tasnim News Agency has revealed that the direct entry of Saudi Arabia and the UAE into the arena of confrontation—by deploying drones into Iranian airspace—represents a “high-stakes gamble,” given the fragility of their infrastructure and heavy reliance on US support.
Details of the Drone Intercepts
The report stated that images released following the downing of two drones over Fars Province indicate the following models were involved:
- MQ-9 Reaper: US-made; assessments suggest it was downed by the “9-D” air defense system.
- Wing Loong: Chinese-made; intercepted using the “Majid” system.
Technical and Operational Significance
The analysis highlighted that the confirmed use of the “9-D” system grants this event particular importance, marking the first documented successful deployment of this system in the current war. The report further noted that the transition of Gulf states from indirect support to active participation in escalation invites potential Iranian retaliations targeting critical infrastructure in those countries.
Strategic Context
Tasnim concluded that this “risk-laden” move may be linked to Washington’s pressure and its repeated conditions that “regional allies must bear the costs,” suggesting that the experience of the Yemen war has already demonstrated these nations’ limited capacity to counter “asymmetric threats.”
