SANAA, March 31 (YPA) – Yemen’s Ministry of Youth and Sports said on Monday that the country’s sports sector has incurred extensive losses over the past 11 years due to the US-Saudi-led military campaign.
At a press conference, the ministry said 446 people from the youth and sports sector have been killed, describing the figure as evidence of significant human losses resulting from both direct and indirect attacks on personnel and activities.
It said 136 sports facilities across 17 provinces have been targeted, leading to widespread damage to sports infrastructure and preventing thousands of young people from participating in athletic activities, in a violation of international laws protecting civilian facilities.
According to the ministry, total direct and indirect losses to the sports sector have exceeded $1 billion, underscoring the scale of economic damage and its impact on youth and sports in the country.
