Tehran: Our delegation in Geneva fully prepared to continue discussions to protect the country’s interests
GENEVA, Feb. 26 (YPA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran’s delegation has arrived in Geneva fully prepared and is ready to continue discussions with determination and seriousness to protect the country’s interests.
In an interview with Iranian state television on Thursday, Esmaeil Baqaei said Iran had conveyed its views to Oman, which is acting as a mediator.
He said the third round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States effectively began on Wednesday following a meeting in Geneva between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.
On Wednesday night, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi discussed Iran’s positions on nuclear issues and the lifting of sanctions with his Omani counterpart Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.
Separately, Al Busaidi met with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi on Thursday morning.
The meeting was part of consultations regarding technical aspects of Iran’s nuclear program and the new ideas being exchanged between the Iranian and US delegations.
He said the third round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States effectively began on Wednesday following a meeting in Geneva between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.
Iran’s state news agency reported that the proposals were conveyed to the United States via the Omani foreign minister in his capacity as mediator.
It added that Iran had put forward an initiative to test Washington’s seriousness in the diplomatic track.
The agency said that any rejection of Iran’s proposals by the White House would reinforce doubts in Tehran about US commitment to diplomacy.
