UAE Chief Rabbi declares plans for first Jewish quarter in Gulf

ABU DHABI, Feb. 25 (YPA) – Eli Abadie, Chief Rabbi of the Jewish community in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has unveiled plans to establish the first Jewish Quarter in the Gulf region, intended to serve the thousands of Jews living in the country, Tasnim International News Agency reported on Wednesday.

According to the Jerusalem Post, Rabbi Abadie said the proposed district would feature a synagogue, hotels, schools, colleges, and a community social center.

Abadie stated that approximately 2,000 Jews currently reside in the UAE, including around 500 who actively observe and practice religious rituals.

He also noted that the UAE has welcomed more than 200,000 Jewish tourists since the signing of the normalization agreement with “Israel”, adding that he expected that figure would be quadrupled within the next five years.
