Aden: “STC” calls for mass protests against Saudi Arabia amid rising tensions

ADEN, Feb. 25 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) issued a call on Tuesday for its supporters to gather in a “million-man” demonstration this coming Friday at Al-Arouth Square.

The protest aims to denounce recent actions by Saudi-backed factions, which included the closure of several STC headquarters in Aden.

In an official statement, the Council demanded the formation of an independent investigative committee to look into the “Maashiq Palace” incidents and the firing upon protesters. Additionally, the STC called for clarity on the fate of forcibly disappeared detainees and investigations into recent clashes in Hadramout and Shabwa provinces that resulted in multiple casualties.

Observers warn that these calls for mobilization, coupled with escalating rhetoric, could push Aden toward further instability. This comes amid growing criticism of the Saudi role and concerns over Riyadh’s inability to maintain security in the city.
