Lazzarini warns Israeli escalation in West Bank undermines two-state solution

MUNICH, Feb. 14 (YPA) – Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, warned that Israel continues its political pressure to dismantle the agency.

His remarks came on Friday evening on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, currently being held in the German city of Munich.

Lazzarini described the situation in Gaza Strip as “still catastrophic,” noting that people are deprived of nearly everything and are struggling to survive as a result of the consequences of Israel’s war.

He added that children in Gaza have not attended school for more than two years, stressing the importance of UNRWA’s continued provision of primary and secondary health and education services.

He also stated that the agency is under immense pressure and that Israel continues to violate international law.

“Israel continues its political pressure to eliminate UNRWA, and we have witnessed the demolition of our headquarters in occupied East Jerusalem,” he said.

Lazzarini further pointed out that Israelis who seize Palestinian land are escalating violence and land appropriation in the West Bank.

He stressed the need to draw attention to developments in the West Bank before it is too late, warning that these actions could undermine the future of the two-state solution.
