Five people killed, 24 injured in Shabwa armed clashes

SHABWA, Feb. 11 (YPA) – About five people were killed and 24 others injured in violent clashes that erupted on Wednesday in Ataq city, the administrative center of Shabwa province.

The clashes broke out following pro-Saudi armed elements stormed regained full control of the province’s administrative building.

Minister of Legal Affairs in the pro-Riyadh Aden government, Ishraq al-Maqtari, confirmed in a post on X that five people were killed and 24 others wounded, without specifying the identities or affiliations of the casualties.

Local sources said armed groups believed to be aligned with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) launched an assault using medium and heavy weapons, targeting security guards in a bid to seize the compound.

Eyewitnesses reported that military and security units deployed around the site responded swiftly, repelled the attack, and secured the government facility.

Although relative calm has since returned, tension and shock continue to grip the city after hours of clashes that rattled Ataq and sparked panic among residents.
