Newly released documents deepen mystery surrounding Epstein’s death

WASHINGTON, Feb. 11 (YPA) – Newly released documents from the U.S. Department of Justice reveal details that appear to contradict the official account of the death of sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein

According to prison surveillance footage reviewed in a report by CBS News, an orange-colored figure was seen moving toward the isolated housing unit where Epstein was held at approximately 10:39 p.m. on August 9, 2019—just hours before he was found dead in his cell.

Interpretations of the figure vary. The FBI previously suggested it may have been another inmate, while the Office of the Inspector General believed it could have been a correctional officer wearing orange protective coverings. Independent experts consulted by CBS News, however, said the movement more closely resembled the gait of a prisoner rather than a staff member.

Several prison staff members noted that escorting an inmate to a segregated unit at that hour would have been unusual.

They indicated that identifying the figure could be key to reconstructing the events of that night. The report also pointed out that the camera angle did not fully cover the entrance to the unit, leaving open the possibility that someone could have entered without being clearly recorded.

These findings appear to contrast with earlier public statements by US officials. Former Attorney General William Barr said no one entered Epstein’s unit on the night of his death. Dan Bongino, former FBI deputy director,  also stated that surveillance footage showed Epstein was the only person inside the unit.

The report further described confusion and inconsistencies in statements given by correctional officers, including lapses in the required 30-minute checks on inmates and conflicting accounts regarding the ligature reportedly used in the apparent suicide.

While the official conclusion remains, that Epstein died by suicide before 6:30 a.m., the newly surfaced details highlight gaps in the record and renew questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
