BEIRUT, Feb. 09 (YPA) -Hezbollah Deputy Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem stressed on Monday that Lebanon has managed to preserve its independence through the liberation of its land, and it possesses real capabilities.
During a speech he delivered at the inauguration ceremony of the Lebanon Medical Center in Hadath-Beirut, Sheikh Naim Qassem affirmed that “the Israeli aggression can only be deterred through the military strength of the resistance, the solidarity of popular support, and political power.”
He also stressed that “The central problem Lebanon is facing is the ‘Israeli’ and American aggression.”
Sheikh Qassem further unveiled that “There were attempts to create a rift between the Lebanese Army and the resistance, but this plan failed.”
Hezbollah’s Sheikh Qassem also asserted that the Israeli occupation is deliberately targeting civilians to create fractures, spraying toxic chemicals on farmland to destroy life, and razing frontline villages to isolate the area.
He cited an incident in which Israeli occupation forces entered the town of Al-Habbariyeh, abducted the Islamic Group’s official for Hasbaya and Marjayoun from his home, assaulted his wife, and vandalized the property in full view of residents.
On domestic political matters, Sheikh Qassem unveiled that “There were attempts to create a rift between the Lebanese Army and the resistance, but this plan failed.”
He acknowledged some differences with President Michel Aoun on specific issues but stressed agreement on major national priorities, warning against any efforts to sow division.
Sheikh Qassem also welcomed Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s visit to southern Lebanon, noting that Salam’s message—that reconstruction will begin despite ongoing aggression—reflects a willingness to cooperate with Hezbollah on rebuilding efforts.
Regarding Hezbollah’s relationship with the Amal Movement, Sheikh Qassem reaffirmed that the alliance is deeply rooted and described the two parties as “one body,” dismissing attempts to create rifts between them.
