Mahwit launches rice harvest

MAHWIT, Feb. 03 (YPA) – The Bani Saad Multipurpose Agricultural Association, in collaboration with the local authorities of Bani Saad District in Mahwit Governorate, launched the rice harvest on Monday in the Deir Al-Sharif locality.

                           

During the launch, District Director Motahar Al-Tawil highlighted the strategic importance of expanding rice cultivation, describing it as a key comparative advantage of the district

.                           

Al-Tawil emphasized that focusing on grain production across various types is a cornerstone for enhancing food security and achieving self-sufficiency, particularly given the country’s exceptional economic challenges.

He praised field efforts aimed at improving crop quality and boosting productivity, stressing the local authority’s and the association’s commitment to continuing to remove obstacles for farmers and provide necessary support to ensure sustained production and expansion of agricultural lands.

Bani Saad Association Chairman Othman Yassin outlined the pivotal role the association played in supporting the demonstration field project.

He explained that the association assisted farmers at every stage—from seed provision and technical supervision to agricultural guidance and the harvest itself.

Yassin highlighted the importance of the “Development Knights” programs in transferring modern farming expertise and educating farmers on best practices to improve production efficiency.

He noted that shifting toward local rice production will significantly reduce import costs and ease economic burdens.

He also urged farmers to make full use of arable land and benefit from the advisory services and support provided by the association.
