Israeli soldier’s suicide pushes toll to record high

QUDS, Jan. 27 (YPA) – The Israeli newspaper Haaretz affirmed on Tuesday that a conscript had died by suicide inside a military base in the south of the occupied territories.

According to the newspaper, the incident occurred on Monday at one of the military bases, without disclosing the soldier’s identity or the specific circumstances surrounding the death.

Haaretz noted that the military police of the occupation army have opened an official investigation into the incident, with the findings to be referred to the so-called military prosecution.

According to data cited by the newspaper, 22 conscripts died by suicide in 2025, the highest figure recorded in approximately 15 years.

Israeli reports have linked this rise to the psychological toll of the prolonged war waged on the Gaza Strip and its profound impact on soldiers involved in the fighting.

According to Israeli mental health specialists, a significant number of soldiers are suffering from severe psychological disorders following their participation in military operations in the besieged Gaza Strip.
