Washington designates “Muslim Brotherhood” branches in Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan as terrorist entities

WASHINGTON, Jan. 13 (YPA) – The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump officially announced on Tuesday the designation of three branches of the “Muslim Brotherhood” in the Middle East on terrorism lists, imposing stringent sanctions on them and their members,

In a joint statement, the Departments of the Treasury and State clarified that the decision includes the group’s branches in Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan, stating they “pose a threat to the United States and its interests.”

Regarding the specifics of the designation, the State Department categorized the Lebanese branch as a “Foreign Terrorist Organization,” the most severe classification, which renders providing material support to the group a criminal offense.

Meanwhile, the Treasury Department designated the Egyptian and Jordanian branches as “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” entities, over allegations of “supporting extremism and terrorism” in the region.
