Somalia officially announces severing ties, ending all agreements with UAE

MOGADISHU, Jan. 12 (YPA) – The Somali Council of Ministers announced on Monday a decision to terminate all existing agreements with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), including those involving government agencies and regional administrations within Somalia.

According to the official Somali News Agency, the decision cancels cooperation at the ports of Berbera, Bosaso, and Kismayo, and ends bilateral security and defense cooperation agreements.

The Council based its decision on the necessity of protecting national sovereignty and the constitutional order, citing reports of actions deemed detrimental to the country’s unity and political independence in violation of international and regional charters.

Consequently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to officially notify the UAE government and international partners of these measures, while Mogadishu reaffirmed its commitment to international cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect and sovereignty.
