PARIS, Jan. 09 (YPA) – France’s Foreign Ministry on Friday condemned attacks targeting the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods in the Syrian city of Aleppo, stressing its absolute rejection of attacks on civilians, who must be protected under international humanitarian law.
“Paris is following developments in the two neighborhoods with deep concern and called for the immediate cessation of all attacks affecting civilian populations and essential infrastructure,” the ministry said in a statement.
In a related context, the French Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its continued efforts to facilitate dialogue between Syria’s transitional government and the Syrian Democratic Forces, in coordination with the United States.
It also renewed France’s commitment to supporting political processes aimed at de-escalation and the protection of civil peace in Syria.
