UN General Assembly affirms Palestinians’ right to self-determination

NEW YORK, Dec. 16 (YPA) – The UN General Assembly on Monday adopted a resolution affirming the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

The resolution was approved by an overwhelming majority of 164 member states. About 164 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while 8 were against.

The resolution referred to the July 2024 advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which stated that Israeli occupation continues to occupy Palestinian territories illegally and creates an obstacle to the realization of the right to self-determination.

Although the resolutions of the UN General Assembly do not have the status of legally binding, they are a very important indicator of the trends and political positions of the international community, and reflect the extent of the isolation faced by the occupation in international forums regarding its continued occupation of the Palestinian territories.
