UN envoy hints at complication in Yemen settlement file

MUSCAT, Nov. 27 (YPA) – UN envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg expressed on Thursday his gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman, after participating in the “Muscat mediation retreat” forum held in the Sultanate.

The UN envoy’s office said on the “X” platform that “Oman continues to provide a reliable space for dialogue, especially at a time when mediation efforts are exposed to increasing challenges.”

The envoy explained he discussed, during the meeting, the latest developments in Yemen and the region, stressing the importance of continuing and coordinating regional and national efforts in support of a political track in Yemen.

He noted that neutral and reliable mediation would remain one of the most powerful tools capable of addressing even the most complex and entrenched conflicts, which is also true for Yemen.

A number of bilateral meetings were held on the sidelines of the forum, including the Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, and the Foreign Minister of Iran Abbas Araghchi, in additional to the minister of State at the Qatari Ministry of foreign affairs Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, Grundberg added.

The Sultanate of Oman has hosted the second edition of the Muscat Mediation Retreat with wide Arab and international participation, during the period November 23-25 in the Omani capital Muscat.
