ADEN, Nov. 27 (YPA) – Dozens of civil and military retirees staged on Thursday a protest rally in front of the Ma’ashiq Presidential Palace, which is based by the coalition-backed Aden government in the city of Aden.
In the rally, the participants demand the government the payment of their overdue entitlements (salaries and pensions), which have been long-awaited since last June.
The protesters raised banners and slogans demanding their legitimate rights and the settlement of their pending files, and the banners were expressed their strong disapproval and dissatisfaction with the continuous delay in disbursing their financial dues, which constitute the basic source of livelihood for them and their families under difficult living conditions.
The rally comes as a new escalation in a series of protests, following the announcement of an open sit-in in front of the Maashiq Palace gate last Monday, amid calls to carry out an angry uprising next Sunday if their demands are not met.
The date of the threatened uprising is scheduled to coincide with the 58th anniversary of Independence Day on November 30, 1967, which gives a symbolic dimension to the protests and increases the sensitivity of timing, in a clear reference from pensioners to the decline of services and rights for which they fought.
