DHAMAR, Nov. 24 (YPA) – Head of the Earthquake and Volcano Monitoring and Research Center in Dhamar province, Mohammed Hussein Al-Houthi, stated on Monday that the eruption of the Ertale volcano in Afar, Ethiopia, which occurred on Sunday represented typical behavior for shield volcanoes associated with the hotspot of the Afar depression.
In closing his statement to 26September.net, Al-Houthi confirmed that volcanic ash resulting from this activity that reached several Yemeni areas, including the districts of Al-Jarahi and Hays of Hodeida, parts of Ibb province, and areas in Wasab, west of Dhamar.
He emphasized that the center was closely monitoring the volcanic activity of the Ertale volcano and its potential impact on neighboring areas, confirming that Yemeni regions remained free of any danger as of Monday morning.
Al-Houthi urged citizens in the affected areas to protect themselves from the volcanic ash, especially those with respiratory conditions, by wearing masks and avoiding areas where it is spreading.
