SANAA, Nov. 24(YPA) -Public outrage and criticism continues on social media following the appearance of a female presenter in revealing clothing on Al-Jumhuriya TV, a channel affiliated with Tariq Afash. Many accuse Tariq Saleh of orchestrating a broader plan to promote moral decay and undermine Yemen’s social identity in line with foreign agendas.
Abdullah Ahmed Al-Udaini, a parliamentarian loyal to the Saudi-led coalition and affiliated with the Islah Party criticized for raising the issue, accused Tariq Saleh in a recent Facebook post of leading a deliberate scheme to erode Yemen’s national identity. The post received widespread engagement, with numerous comments supporting Al-Udaini’s words.

Meanwhile, social media users, including writers and journalists, continue to share clips and images from the controversial episode, expressing clear rejection of what they described as the channel’s “shift toward unchecked liberalization” and the adoption of appearances inconsistent with the modesty standards long upheld by Yemeni audiences in broadcast media.
“What Al-Jumhuriya TV broadcast was not a fleeting scene, but rather a public affront and a potential source of social discord, testing the boundaries of a community known for its conservatism and adherence to religious and cultural norms,” journalist Jibran Al-Emad wrote in a post on Facebook.
Al-Emad considers the broadcast as the beginning of an ethical breach aimed at eroding the sense of modesty in Yemeni society under the guise of personal freedom.
For her part, Activist Anisa Al-Yousfi criticized the anchor’s appearance, saying that what some Yemeni media channels show of female presenters abandoning modest dress is unacceptable.

She added that freedom does not mean defying God’s law or the values of society.
Moreover, Alaa Al-Din Al-Hamdani, commenting on the matter, wrote that the presenter’s appearance violates Islamic principles as well as the customs and traditions of Yemen.

He added that those defending her are a disaster, describing them as catalysts for moral corruption and the destruction of future generations’ ethics.
Yemeni activist Rahaf Al-Wasabi also criticized the anchor’s appearance, sarcastically asking, “Is this the presenter or a dancer?” and called for respect for religion, customs, and traditions.

The widespread outrage and criticism on social media reflect broad public rejection of Al-Jumhuriya TV’s emerging policy of moral laxity and provocative attire. Critics argue that this approach is inconsistent with Yemeni social values, customs, and ethics regarding modesty and public appearance, as no female anchor has previously appeared in such attire on any Yemeni channel.
