UNRWA: Hundreds of thousands of displaced people in Gaza face winter in tattered tents

GAZA, Nov. 18 (YPA) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that hundreds of thousands of displaced people in the Gaza Strip are entering winter without proper shelter, with many living in dilapidated tents lacking basic necessities.

“Hundreds of thousands of displaced people in #Gaza are facing a third winter without protection and the basics. Many live in worn-out tents,” UNRWA wrote on X.

“Fragile shelters quickly flood, soaking people’s belongings and leaving families exposed to the cold,” it added, while stressing the urgent need for more shelter supplies.

Meanwhile, Tamara Alrifai, UNRWA Director of External Relations and Communications, said: “The recent rains have added yet another layer of vulnerability in Gaza.”

“Over 13,000 displaced families living in makeshift shelters or tents have now been affected by flooding,” she added on X.

She stressed the need for more shelter materials to be allowed into Gaza, while noting that the Agency continues work on the ground to assist affected families.
