Two militants killed in Abyan explosion

ABYAN, Nov. 14 (YPA) – Two militants were killed and another was injured on Friday in an explosion targeting an armed vehicle in Al-Wadi’ah district, in the central part of Abyan province, southern Yemen.

Local sources confirmed that unknown gunmen, believed to be affiliated with elements of Al-Qaeda and Islah Party, targeted a military vehicle of the UAE-backed Security Belt while it was passing through the Al-Wadi’ah road, using an explosive device.

The source explained that the attack, for which no group has claimed responsibility so far, completely disabled the vehicle, causing also significant damage.

It pointed out that patrols belonging to the Security Belt rushed to the site of the explosion in a desperate attempt to contain the situation and pursue the perpetrators who fled to an unknown location.

Abyan, like other southern provinces, has been turned into a battleground for settling scores between coalition countries through local tools, amid clear cooperation and coordination between Al-Qaeda and the Islah leadership in Abyan and Shabwa, especially in Wadi Ubaida in Marib where represents the main stronghold of the organization.
