OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Oct. 23 (YPA) -Israeli occupation has rejected calls for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to resume its operations in the Gaza Strip, despite an International Criminal Court (ICC) ruling demanding the agency’s return, Israeli Channel Kan reported on Thursday.
According to Israeli officials, the government has no intention of permitting UNRWA to resume its humanitarian work in Gaza, a decision made following recent rulings by international courts. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) had previously urged “Israel” to allow UNRWA to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza, which has been devastated by conflict for over two years.
The ICJ emphasized that “Israel” is legally obligated to facilitate international aid efforts, including those of UNRWA, under international law. The court also reminded “Israel” of its duty to avoid using starvation as a method of warfare.
Although the ICJ’s advisory opinion is not legally binding, it carries significant moral weight and could increase global pressure on “Israel” to allow more aid into Gaza.
This is the third ruling issued by international courts regarding Israel’s actions in the Palestinian territories since the Gaza war began. In addition to this advisory opinion, the ICJ has previously declared that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian lands is “illegal,” and it has also issued a judgment in a genocide case demanding “Israel” take all necessary measures to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza.
