ABYAN, Oct. 21 (YPA) – About 18 recruits of the UAE-funded Southern Transitional Council (STC) were killed and wounded on Tuesday in a double attack using two car bombs in Abyan province, southern Yemen.
Media sources loyal to the STC confirmed that members believed to be affiliated with al-Qaeda carried out the double attack on the headquarters of the so-called “First Support and Logistics Brigade” in the government building in Al-Mahfad district.
The attack resulted in the deaths of four recruits and the wounding of 14 others, according to preliminary figures.
The sources reported that following the attack, armed clashes erupted between Islah Party-affiliated members of the organization in the area and “Support and Logistics” recruits. The latter imposed a tight security cordon around the area to prevent any infiltration attempts or additional reinforcements for the attackers.
They indicated that the explosion of the two car bombs caused significant material damage to Al-Mahfad Hospital, adjacent buildings, and shops.
