WARSAW, Oct. 05 (YPA) – The Polish armed forces declared on Sunday the immediate scramble of its aircraft to protect the country’s airspace.
This move came after a series of Russian airstrikes targeting Ukrainian areas near the Polish border.
The Polish Army Operations Command clarified in a statement that “Polish and allied aircraft are currently operating,” confirming that ground-based air defense systems and radar reconnaissance systems have been placed on the highest level of alert.
This action comes amid the Ukrainian Air Force’s declaration of a high alert status, warning of new Russian attacks.
Polish fears of a spillover of the conflict are growing, prompting Warsaw to strengthen surveillance of its eastern border and consider a legal amendment that would allow its forces to shoot down Russian targets over Ukraine without prior approval from NATO or the European Union.
