SANAA, Sept. 24 (YPA) – A number of European academics have issued an urgent call to European universities to end academic cooperation with Zionist institutions, in light of the ongoing crimes and grave violations committed by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip.
In a joint statement, the academics warned that continuing academic cooperation with the Zionist entity in light of what they described as “crimes against humanity and genocide” in Gaza constitutes indirect complicity in these crimes and undermines the moral values to which educational institutions should adhere.
The universities of Amsterdam, Utrecht, Leiden, Erasmus Rotterdam, and Tilburg in the Netherlands have already announced the end of their cooperation with Zionist academic institutions, while many universities in Britain are reluctant to take similar steps despite growing academic and popular pressure.
The academics emphasized that joint academic projects represent a form of complicity in war crimes, calling on universities to demonstrate moral responsibility and take a clear position by stopping cooperation with the occupation.
These calls in Europe come in parallel with similar decisions that some universities in the United States have begun to take, reflecting the expansion of global academic solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
