TAIZ, Sept. 18 (YPA) – The assassination of Iftehan Al-Mashhri, the executive director of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in Taiz city, on Thursday sparked a major crisis after sanitation workers announced a full-scale strike in protest of the crime.
The workers expressed their outrage at the security chaos that preceded Al-Mashhri’s assassination, blocking several main streets with trash barrels and scattering garbage bags. They declared they would not return to work until the perpetrators are apprehended, the details of the crime are revealed, and a fair trial is guaranteed.
According to the workers’ statement, the identity of the perpetrators is “known to the security authorities.” The statement held the local authority loyal to the Saudi-led coalition and security agencies fully responsible for protecting workers and ensuring a safe work environment, demanding an expedited process to achieve justice.
Local activists reported that Al-Mashhri had refused to pay illegal tolls to influential figures, which led to a death threat from a known individual. She had filed official reports about the incident, but the security inaction ultimately led to her assassination.
These events reveal the extent of the huge security chaos in the areas under the control of the coalition amid a security failure to protect citizens, after which these areas reached the brink of complete collapse.
