WORLD, Sept. 06 (YPA) – US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said, Saturday, that the United States would adopt a more aggressive approach to winning wars, using “the utmost lethality,” following the official renaming of the Department of Defense (Pentagon) into the Department or War.
In a speech at the White House, where US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to officially rename the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth stated: “So at your direction, Mr. President, the War Department is going to fight decisively, not endless conflicts. It’s going to fight to win. Not not to lose. We’re going to go on offense, not just on defense.”
He added, The War Department will resort to maximum lethal, not tepid legality, violent effect, not politically correct. We’re going to raise up warriors, not just defenders.”
On Friday, US President Donald Trump announced the renaming of the Department of Defense to the Ministry of War.
In a statement to reporters at the White House, Trump said the rebrand will send a message to America’s enemies and allies alike.
“I think it sends a message of victory, really a message of strength,” he said as he signed the order establishing the Department of War as a secondary name for the Pentagon.
It is worth noting that the “Department of War” was initially established during the early years of US independence to oversee the army.
It was later dissolved as part of a government reorganization after World War II, with the army being merged with the navy and air force under the “National Military Establishment,” which was subsequently transformed into the Department of Defense in 1949.
