Aden governor: What Washington is doing by its proxies is clear economic occupation

ADEN, Aug. 10 (YPA) – The Sanaa government-appointed Aden governor, Tariq Salam, affirmed on Saturday that the Saudi-led coalition countries were trying to curb the chaos and the popular escalation in Aden and the southern provinces by imaginary improvements in the local currency, without any significant economic measures.

In an exclusive interview with the Yemeni Press Agency, Salam stated that the ill-considered steps taken by the coalition-affiliated Aden government were nothing more than attempts to divert attention from the economic collapse and security chaos plaguing the region, while simultaneously plundering national resources and exploiting the country’s wealth for the private interests of coalition’s tools.

He explained that tools of the corrupt forces running the scene in the southern provinces were the ones smuggling national capital in foreign currency abroad, pointing out their role in creating an economic crisis in the Yemeni market through the illegal printing of over 5 trillion riyals without monetary cover.

“What Washington is doing through its local tools is a clear economic occupation, especially after those tools failed to carry out the military and security tasks assigned to them,” Aden governor, describing the American intervention in overseeing the functions of the Central Bank in Aden as blatant interference in Yemeni sovereignty.”

Salam accused the Aden government and the coalition-backed Presidential Leadership Council of working to strengthen the American and Israeli presence, even if it came at the expense of Yemeni sovereignty.

He criticized the government’s de facto handover of control of the Central Bank in Aden to the US Treasury Department, a move he described as “scandalous and unprecedented,” representing the climax of direct US interference in Yemeni affairs under flimsy pretexts and the cover of “financial reforms.”

Aden governor emphasized that American intervention in destroying the national economy comes within the framework of the ongoing violations and intelligence missions America carried out in Yemen, aimed at ensuring a safe path for its presence on Yemeni soil.

He pointed out that the coalition-backed governor of the Aden-based central bank, Ahmed Al-Ma’baqi, received directions to implement the instructions of the US Treasury team that arrived in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, at the end of last July, coming from Washington. This team would oversee the management of monetary operations and control of the exchange rate from outside Yemen.

Salam considered the continued deterioration of the service and living conditions in Aden for more than ten years to represent “a real and painful catastrophe that must be absorbed by the free people of Aden and Yemen in general”.

Finally, governor Salam called on the people of Aden and the rest of the southern provinces to stand firmly and resolutely against the conspiracies targeting their present and the future of their children, and to confront the serious challenges by eradicating these tools and forces from the south of the country, in additional to build and advance the nation and to prioritize the public interest over factional ambitions and narrow gains.
